While the second observance of Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) was about enhancing accessibility for both current and future employees, the day’s observance wasn’t limited to work.

During a 90-minute live webcast, game developers from WarnerMedia gave a sneak peek at their work to make entertainment more enjoyable for all. “At AT&T, our mission is to inspire human progress through the power of communication and entertainment,” said Mike Barry, Director, Compliance. “Progress means moving forward and enhancing accessibility for everyone.”

A panel discussion reviewed AT&T accessibility and inclusion efforts during the past year. Currently, 14 separate accessibility initiatives are underway.

The event also included:

  • An appeal for employees to use “#iCount,” an initiative allowing employees to self-identify with nearly 200 disabilities or conditions.
  • A presentation on how AT&T technology is aiding entrepreneurs’ creation of devices like prosthetics as part of the Internet of Things (IoT).
  • Personal experiences on how assistive technology tools for low or no vision make doing jobs easier for employees.

GAAD is observed on the third Thursday in May to promote digital accessibility and inclusion for people with all disabilities.
